Will you be in Melbourne in January and February 2010 and would like to be involved in a Welcome Event at the Melbourne Airport for International students?

The City of Melbourne and the Office of Knowledge Capital will be running a Student Welcome Desk at Melbourne Airport and are looking for 100 enthusiastic and committed, local and international student volunteers to volunteer in the program for at least 4 days between January 23rd and February 21st, 2010.

Volunteers provide their services of their own free will and without financial payment.

You will… approach and welcome newly arriving international students, providing them with welcome packs and assist them with immediate questions.

What is The Time Commitment?

• Each volunteer will be asked to attend at least four shifts, any more than four shifts is optional, and volunteers will be able to nominate preferred shift times.
• Duration of each shift is 6 hours.
• Each day will have two shifts 7am - 1pm and 5.30pm - 11.30pm (these times are set to meet the peak arrival times for international students)
• Each volunteer will be required to attend a one day training event.

What Will I Get out of it?

• Pride and a sense of achievement in making a valuable contribution to Melbourne
• Social interaction helping new international students to Melbourne feel welcome upon arrive in Australia.
• Official Certificate presented at a Volunteer Thank You Event in March, 2010.
• Develop new friendships with other student volunteers
• Fun and enjoyment ‘on the job’ and at the Thank You Event social function.
• Free transport to and from Melbourne Airport and Southern Cross Station
