Meet our people

There is only one way to find out what it’s like to work at the City of Melbourne and that’s by meeting our people and reading about their experiences.

Let’s meet:

  • Jennifer Pitson - Account Manager, Event Sponsorship - Events Melbourne
  • Joseph Genco - Municipal Building Surveyor - Planning and Building
  • Jane Sharwood - Manager - Business and International
  • Sahil Bhasin - Operations Team Leader - Melbourne City Baths

Jennifer, Account Manager - Event Sponsorship

Working at City Of Melbourne means that I am fortunate enough to enjoy a role that contributes to the delivery of some of Melbourne’s highest profile and most successful events. Being part of projects such as the Boxing Day Test, the Homeless World Cup and the Italian Festival means that I get to work across both cultural and sports events that promote our wonderful city both locally and to the rest of the world. I work within a supportive and genuinely motivated team of very talented, inspirational individuals, which means that in turn, my skills are constantly developing. Working in an environmentally friendly building such as Council House 2 adds to the appeal of coming to work each day – it’s great to work for an organisation that has a genuine concern for the environment.

JosephMunicipal Building Surveyor

My role as a Municipal Building Surveyor at City of Melbourne means that I enjoy the responsibility of working on some of the most complex buildings in Melbourne.  In addition to this, the team is responsible for the approval of temporary structures and fire safety for large scale public events such as Melbourne Spring Racing Carnival, Big Day Out and the Royal Melbourne Show. It is a role that is constantly offering challenges and diversity, whilst being part of a team of dedicated professionals who are committed to not only the job at hand, but also to the development of the more junior staff. Any day could involve dealing with issues involving large scale fires, flooding of multi-story buildings or general non compliance of structures – as a result, my job is never predictable or dull.

Jane, Manager - Business and International

As a passionate Melburnian, I enjoy contributing to building strong international connections that benefit Melbourne. The City of Melbourne, through its International Relations program, is a leader in Australia and I am privileged to meet and work with a wide range of international visitors and organisations. The diversity of the International Relations portfolio and new challenges that arise on a daily basis, ensure my working life is never dull. Work is not just about the task, but it’s also about the people we work with. There is a strong sense of team and commitment to deliver programs, events and initiatives that benefit Melbourne - while having fun along the way. Local government is a wonderful sector in which to work because of the huge diversity of services and programs delivered to our community.

Sahil, Operations Team Leader - Melbourne City Baths

As the Operations Team Leader for the Melbourne City Baths, I get to work with a passionate and dedicated team of people across a broad range of areas. Since joining the team three years ago, I have been given many opportunities to expand my skills and work on a number of diverse projects and activities – no two days are ever the same. It is a fast-paced environment that is focussed on building relationships both inside and outside of the business, while providing challenging and fun activities for the community. It is great to work for an organisation that respects its staff and highly values their contribution.
